Poppies are GO!
Poppies! Aaaaargh, it's just so amazeballs! We've been inundated with poppies for our poppy appeal, and we have been blown away by people's generosity with their time in making them. It's been amazing to feel so at home in the community here in Halstead (and beyond - after all, we've also had loads of poppies posted in to us from all over the country!)
We've been really lucky to have had so much yarn as well as buttons donated for this project, which has really helped immensely. A massive thank you to Stylecraft, King Cole, Sirdar and Groves, who have all given so generously!

It was so much fun to keep receiving giant boxes of red yarn! And yes, that is some super chunky in there - and yes, we did make super chunky poppies!!
We've also had 2 amazeballs banners made by the wonderful Gaynor, the first of which has already gone up in the window. The second will be added when the full poppy display goes in this weekend! They made me quite teary when I saw them. They've already had such an effect on brooch sales, as people are noticing them from across the road and then coming in to buy poppies!
We've also had the WI/Halstead in Bloom Poppy Wall from a few years ago loaned to us - although I am less sure quite how to fit that in the window... But their generosity has been amazing!
And just WAIT until you see the giant poppy, courtesy of the wonderful Davis family!
We have slowed right down on the poppy collecting (of course if you still have some to drop in, please do - but don't make any more this year!)
Our poppy collection pot was so full at one point, we had to decant into another box! The box was Jo's genius idea, because we all need giant boxes with giant poppies on to hold the poppies safely, right?! Here you can see Jo modelling the top poppy perfectly...

I haven't done a final count of poppies, but we have counted the ones we have strung for the window, as well as those we have already turned into brooches and then those combined with a rough estimate of the ones we are yet to sew ends in on/string up/make into brooches that are sitting in our giant poppy collecting bucket, we think we have just over 1000 poppies!!!
Woohooooooo!
Of course the biggest reason for this is to raise money. Our Poppy Brooches are on sale NOW in the shop. Suggested minimum donation is £2.50 for a brooch, and ALL of the money will go to the Royal British Legion.
We've also got some purple poppies for sale, which we will keep money separate for a RBL approved animal charity.
So please, please, please do come in and buy a poppy brooch from us!
And thank you again, you're all wonderful 😊
Mwah xx
